Project description
The solar wind is a continuous stream of particles from the Sun that fills the interplanetary space and defines the outer reaches of our solar system. Despite significant advances in understanding the solar corona, the exact sources of the solar wind remain poorly known. In particular how and from where in the solar corona the slow solar wind originates is highly debated. In this project, novel accurate numerical models of the dynamic solar corona and solar wind will be developed and used together with data from the latest space- and ground based observatories to trace the origin of the solar wind. The new understanding of the dynamic corona will aid in developing better tools for forecasting harmful space weather events originating from the Sun.
