Project description
Life on Earth thrives out of equilibrium. The dissipation of energy is what sustains the incredible properties of living materials: the capacity to self-heal, reproduce and evolve intelligently are all products of the capability to consume energy and use it to generate change. Creating synthetic dissipative materials with functionalities approaching those of biological systems is one of the frontiers of technological innovation. This project aims to develop a new class of dissipative materials based on nanoparticles and organic molecule assemblies. With this innovative class of materials it is possible to achieve control over the nanoparticles organization thanks to the energy dissipation, and to make a first step towards transferring the remarkable properties of the biological materials into technological applications.
