Project description
The circular economy is considered a solution to the ever-increasing demands for raw materials in our technologically advanced societies. However, the engineering needed to develop technology supporting the circular economy is multi-dimensional, i.e., “hyper-spherical” as it involves at least materials, energy, time, and economical value. The objective of HYPER-SPHERE is to solidify this multi-dimensional engineering concept by developing i) objective energy circularity parameters and ii) technology to enable energy loops in rechargeable batteries. We will systematically trace energy flows, building upon our previous concept of material statistical entropy. Moreover, we will search for an electrochemical discharging medium that will allow harvesting the overpotential energy in end-of-life batteries. In this manner, HYPER-SPHERE will provide solutions for challenges related to the circular economy in support of a transition towards electrification and renewable energy sources.
