Project description
The aim of the research work, carried out at the University of Oulu, Finland, is to find the most optimal method to detect and measure photons reflected in a physical phenomenon called Raman scattering. The Raman effect is unique for each chemical component and hence it is an effective method to solve the molecular structure and chemical environment of a sample. A next-generation detector for Raman spectroscopy will be developed, which performance is the state-of-the art and the characteristics make new molecule identification methods possible. The project generates highly accurate integrated time-domain signal processing structures to separate important Raman photons from irrelevant background noise, most importantly fluorescence, and aims at resolving the full Raman spectra in real-time. The project improves and advances, for example, virus and bacterial identification, cancer diagnosis, mining industry, waste recycling and water purity evaluation.
