Beskrivning av projektet
Every tenth infant is exposed to lifetime risks of neurocognitive compromise that could be alleviated with very early interventions. However, they need better early functional biomarkers of brain development. It is also poorly known how different adversities become embedded in child’s brain function, or how to measure effects of therapeutic interventions. The BABBA project combines several clinical cohorts from Finland, Sweden and USA to assess developmental effects of early prematurity, birth asphyxia, and exposure to drugs or dietary restrictions. These infants are studied with a large array of cutting edge methods to analyse maturation of brain networks from electroencephalographs, infant’s motility from 3D video and intelligent wearable, and cognitive abilities using eye trackers. The project is expected to deliver clinically valid functional biomarkers for future medical and other research, as well to show how nursing may affect brain maturation.
