This study explores what ordinary people consider to be moderate with regards to food consumption and how they construct these views. Understanding ordinary ethics of food consumption is pivotal in society where the food system routinely produces more food than we are able to consume and where people are constantly invited to exhibit their identity, personality and values through food choices. The data for this study will be collected in Canada and Finland. They consist of observation and individual and focus group interviews. The findings have the potential to provide new perspectives that challenge our contemporary ways of understanding human relations with other people and the environment. They give food for thought for public debate and can be used in the educational and cultural sectors, in the sustainability development, and in the development of food policies, food industry and marketing. The site of the research is the University of Tampere, Faculty of Social Sciences.
