Beskrivning av projektet
“Responsible Beliefs: Why Ethics and Epistemology Need Each Other” develops theoretical models and analytical tools for researchers, political actors, and the public to identify and assess unreliable or unjust ways of forming beliefs, and to improve epistemic practices. The project examines the different ways in which we can be responsible for our beliefs, why fully responsible beliefs require competence with reasons rather than just coherence in the individual case, when it is reasonable and morally right to trust information from others in the social case, and how we should act when neither individual nor interpersonal inquiry resolves moral uncertainty. Answering these questions is more important than ever in an era of fake news, big data, AI bots, and worldview pluralism. Although their ethical and epistemic aspects are tightly intertwined, they have rarely been explored simultaneously. Participants in the project include leading national and international experts on each topic.
