Cardiac fibrosis is present in almost all myocardial diseases making its diagnosis important. Magnetic resonance imaging has been used for that purpose for a long time, although imaging requires the use of intravenous contrast agent. The involvement of contrast agent causes uncertainties and inaccuracies to the imaging leading sometimes to a low image quality. In previous studies, we have found that our endogenous magnetic resonance contrasts are suitable for fibrosis imaging without contrast agents. In this proposal we are imaging the pathological fibrosis and heart naturally fibrous structures including sinoatrial node with contrasts developed within the group. We also evaluate possibilities to image electrical activity in the heart conduction system by magnetic resonance imaging and resolve the origin of the contrast between fibrous and normal myocardium by measuring numerous samples from the heart and from liquids using various magnetic resonance techniques.
