Beskrivning av projektet
Psychiatric disorders impair the quality of life of many patients, and impose the huge economic burden on the country’s budget. The understanding of the pathology at cellular level is needed for proper diagnostics and development of better medication. Psychiatric disorders are mainly caused by genetic factors, which affect the normal development of the brain. In our project, we will study the formation of the neuronal network in striatum – part of the brain, responsible for the hyperactivity, repetitive actions and deficits of attention seen in psychiatric patients; and then evaluate the impairment of the striatal development in the animal model of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The obtained results will help to address the question of the origin of behavioral disturbances, seen in patients with ADHD. Study will be done in University of Helsinki, and is planned to be completed in five years.
