CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the largest and most respected centres for scientific research in the world. CERN mission is fundamental physics, finding out what the Universe is made of and how it works. At CERN, the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, such as the 28 km long Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its experiments such as ALICE, CMS and TOTEM, are used to study the basic constituents of matter — the fundamental particles. By 2026, the energy of the LHC accelerator will be upgraded to 14 TeV (tera-electron-volt), resulting to so called High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). Thus, for the full development of the physics program, the experiments as well as their computing infrastructure must be upgraded, too. Finnish team is participating in the infrastructure ugrade in the international collaborations of CMS Endcap MIP Timing, TOTEM Precicion Proton Spectrometer (PPS), TOTEM T2 telescope, and ALICE Fast Interaction Trigger (FIT).
