Beskrivning av projektet
Androgen receptor (AR) is the cellular hormone receptor for testosterone. Pathological aggregation of AR occurs in neurodegenerative Kennedy’s disease. On the other hand, aberrant expression of AR can drive advanced prostate cancer. In order to learn of differences in normal functions of neurons and epithelial cells, and to better understand AR-related pathologies, we study the molecular regulation of the AR. In a previous study, we have identified novel expression changes of RNA binding proteins which depend on AR. The functions of these proteins in epithelial cells are unknown, as are the molecular connections between these proteins and AR. In this study we interrogate the normal functions of these proteins and their role in AR-mediated cellular signaling. The aim is also to study whether these molecular mechanisms can be exploited in future treatment strategies against prostate cancer.
