The main objective of this multidisciplinary research is to conduct a Finnish boreal forest case study to provide novel means and tools: i) to identify the areas having high risk of wind damage, based on remote sensing data (especially ALS data), and ii) to evaluate the direct and value-based trade-offs, and overall utilities, related to forest ecosystem goods and services (EGS), in multi-objective management of forests over different time spans under different management, harvesting, and climate scenarios. This work will simultaneously consider forest ecosystem goods and services, such as timber, carbon storage and biodiversity indicators, consideration of the risk of wind damage, and the effects of changing carbon storage and surface albedo on radiative forcing. This research will be implemented with the key national and international research collaborators to ensure high scientific significance, relevance and impact of the research.
