Beskrivning av projektet
Cancer can modify in many ways our immune system for its own benefit leading to uncontrolled growth and spread of cancer. This research proposal will tackle fundamental questions that are currently largely unanswered: 1) How can tumor cells originating from non-recirculating cells metastasize via the lymphatics while their normal counterparts are not able to do that? 2) To what extent can cancer cells change the normal phenotype of lymphatics to enable their trafficking and spread? 3) Do the tumor-induced changes in lymphatic vasculature simultaneously lead to down-modulation of the immune response against the tumor? The expected outcome of the project will be identification of new targets, which can be exploited when new anti-cancer drugs are developed.
