Project description
Ion transport and electrochemical reactions are vital for biological processes and energy applications such as batteries and fuel cells. In contrast, the exploitation of ion migration in nanoelectronics has been limited, despite its remarkable ability to actively modify materials properties. Our objective is to extend the realm of “ionotronics” into new conceptual and practical directions. We focus on ionic control of electronic, magnetic, plasmonic, and optical properties of solid-state hetero- and nanostructures. Our multidisciplinary approach maximizes the impact of new insights across traditional boundaries in condensed matter physics and provides realistic scenarios for practical devices.
