Beskrivning av projektet
The aim of the project Intergenerational relations and resource competition is to shed light on the history of grandparenthood which has not been studied adequately before. Human Life-History project’s large (n > 80,000 people), individual-based data-set collected from Finnish historical church records between 1500 and 2000 is used as a primary source material. Data include the full life-history of max 15 complete generations. This demographic data is completed with the information collect from traditional life-annuity contracts (syytinkisopimus) and their handling in courts. By studying the history of intergenerational human family relations through a peephole of life-annuity contracts, it is possible to gain important new information on historical family systems in Finland and possible resource competition between grandparents and grandchildren. Theoretically the project is linked to demography, historical sociology, and behavioral ecology.
