Project description |
By combining astronomy and geodesy, we will develop a new method to foster the ultra-precise Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations. Geodetic VLBI observations utilize extragalactic radio sources, quasars, as reference points when measuring Earth's shape and orientation in space. Quasars, however, are not point-like sources but their internal structure will degrade the accuracy of the observations and ultimately, accuracy of the final product, the global reference frame. As a result of the
project we will develop an automated method to measure and apply the actual structure of the radio source in future VLBI observations which will be a big leap towards the millimetre-accurate global geodetic reference frame. |
