Project description |
Arctic natural systems are undergoing unprecedented changes, with permafrost thaw as one of the most striking impacts. The ArcticSHOC project will provide spatial predictions of Arctic earth surface systems under climate change. The main objectives are to:
(i) investigate the environmental drivers of near-surface permafrost,
(ii) forecast spatial patterns of current, past, and future permafrost across the Northern Hemisphere, and
(iii) identify the most potential remobilization sites of Arctic soil organic carbon in the face of climate warming.
The ArcticSHOC is based on a unique set of field and geospatial environmental data, and cutting-edge ensemble modelling methodology. The results of this project will provide new information on geomorphological and biogeochemical systems in the Arctic. |
