The aim is to enhance efficiency of drug, RNA and viral therapies in prostate cancer (as a model cancer) by utilizing recent findings from extracellular vesicle (EV) research. The aim is to learn from nature and exploit that knowledge in building biomimetic EV-based carriers for targeted delivery of cancer therapeutics. The project offers entirely new concept to treat serious illnesses like cancer with drug delivery challenges. The proposed treatment is based on targeting of intravenous cancer cell derived hypoxic EVs to the tumour. These naturally targeting carriers will be loaded with cancer drug, viral vectors and therapeutic microRNAs. The project aims to deliver pre-clinical proof-of-concept (POC) of the new technology at the level of animal models of prostate cancer for further clinical and industrial translation.
