Many assistive wearable devices for elderly and rehabilitation are made of stiff or rigid materials. This has limited their usability due to safety, need for contact with body, comfort, and acceptability. ActiveFit concept is based on elastic bending hydraulic actuators integrated into wearable fabric. The suit made of such robotic fabric will provide inherent compliance and is adaptable thus providing possibilities for elegant design, which is especially important for acceptability of wearable robots. During the project, we identified that the forces are not enough to provide a complete support for the user. However, enough for certain types of rehabilitation. To demonstrate this, we built a tele-operation system consisting of two actuators one installed on the operator’s index finger (the therapist) and the other in a 3D printed finger (the patient). This will allow a therapist to assist the patient in a safe way.
