Project description
The project investigates the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. AI systems and robots are increasingly present in everyday life in ways that have a direct effect on our well-being. This creates situations where no one has enough control and knowledge to predict and prevent harmful consequences of AI applications. There are two ways to minimize the risks of harm: 1) to restrict the use of AI for ethical reasons and 2) to make algorithms themselves sensitive to ethically significant features in the context of use. Much of the discussion of the risks of AI has concentrated in the far future threats and possibilities, neglecting more immediate issues. Our project shifts the focus to concrete issues with current and near future practices and technologies. We explore, first, the present needs for caution in using AI (especially in healthcare context) and, second, which goals should be given to developing AI to make it responsive to the ethical risks in its environment.
