Project description
Populist parties have been successful in recent years. However, so far, little is known about how populist rhetoric persuades and mobilises voters. This project approaches populism as a form of mobilising communication. The main goal of the project is to explore how a populist message attracts supporters by mobilizing representations, emotions and identities. The comparative European design, including Finland, Switzerland, France and Greece, aims to explore and compare the persuasion and reception of both right-wing and left-wing populist rhetoric. The project focuses on the production and dissemination of populist rhetoric in hybrid media, and their reception by citizens and voters. The project utilizes a variety of materials: interview material, news, moving image, blogs, online communications on various traditional and social media platforms.
