Project description
There’s increasing evidence showing how crucial role early mathematical development has for the child’s academic future, yet the research on preschool numeracy still has areas of early numeracy lagging research evidence on developmental factors leading to individual differences in mathematical development before school age. Focusing On Numerical Order (FONO) project will develop novel measures and use a cross-sectional and a 2-year-longitudinal studies of 4-7 –year-old children to examine individual and developmental differences in spontaneous focusing on numerical order and other numerical skills. Furthermore an experimental intervention study will investigate the impact of spontaneous focusing on numerical order on the development of early numeracy. Altogether this research holds a promise of scientific breakthrough in understanding of how numerical order, counting and cardinality-related skills as well as later arithmetical relations develop towards well-integrated number system.
