Project description
We aim to understand how tissue microenvironment regulates nuclear structure and genomic architecture to control cell fate. Cells in the human body are adapted to the physical properties of each tissue type. Cell sense mechanical forces in their environment through biomechanical signalling pathways that link the cell exterior to the nucleus. These physical forces influence nuclear architecture and sculpt gene regulatory networks through poorly understood mechanisms. Here we will use innovative tissue engineering, imaging and sequencing techniques to identify novel concepts in biomechanical regulation of gene regulatory networks. We anticipate defining specific pathways enabling plasticity in stem cells and cancer. In addition, we expect to identify new clinically relevant biomarkers and therapeutic targets in human oral cancer.
