Project description |
Climate change will increase summer-time temperatures and risk of heat waves. Exposure to excess heat is associated with increased morbidity and mortality especially among vulnerable population groups. The project will produce new scientific information on the health effects of high temperatures and societal and other factors related to heat vulnerability. The project will also evaluate technological solutions to reduce exposure to heat, and improve climate scenarios and forecasts of heat waves. Finally,
the project will provide an estimate of the burden of disease, as well as related economic costs, caused by heat in Finland in different climate, societal and adaptation scenarios. Project will make use of health and other types of register data, but will also include a survey and field measurements. The results of the project can be used as guidance on societally acceptable and economically efficient adaptation measures to reduce population vulnerability to heat in Finland. |
