Project description
This project investigates how gene regulatory networks are impacted differently by alternative alleles of a supergene controlling for colour polymorphism in insects. A novel family-based sequencing approach is developed to elucidate parental haplotypes from a single offspring individual. Gene expression and open chromatin analyses are then combined to characterise the gene network underlying the phenotypic polymorphism. The methodology developed here can be readily applied to other non-model organisms with interesting biology but that cannot be reared in laboratory conditions and for which their genomic characterisation is challenging due to high heterozygosity.
