Project description
The MegaSense project addresses the global challenge pertaining to air pollution modelling and prediction. Our mission is to use a small number of highly accurate measurement stations to calibrate a high number of low-quality and low-cost sensors and improve their capabilities. We envisage that with new machine learning based calibration methods low quality sensors can be significantly extended, even to detect pollutants that are beyond the initial hardware capabilities. The research work is supported by the existing computing infrastructure and the SMEAR network of high precision air quality monitoring towers. An Industrial Advisory Board will be formed and effort will be made to disseminate the results to the industry. The three-year project is expected to start in September 2019.
