Project description
In Finland, already 35% of pregnant women are overweight or obese. Obesity predisposes mothers and unborn babies to many risks such as gestational diabetes, depression, preterm birth or congenital anomalies. The continuous measurement of physiological parameters and lifestyle could help us to uncover and model multifactorial processes that lead to these pregnancy complications. Internet of Things (IoT) technologies can be leveraged to create the ability to perform such monitoring throughout pregnancy. In this study, we tackle the challenge by proposing an IoT platform tailored for pregnancy complication prevention for everyday settings. Our core contributions are 1) a customized architecture including a set of wearable electronic devices and automated life logging feasible for 10-month continuous monitoring, 2) a personalized pregnancy complication prevention solution using artificial intelligence methods, and 3) a comprehensive performance assessment of monitoring in clinical trials.
