Project description
Recent studies suggest that the investigation of Spontaneous Focusing On quantitative Relations (SFOR) is an important component of mathematical development, in particular the development of rational number knowledge. This project includes two studies aimed at deepening, both theoretically and methodologically, our understanding of the development of SFOR tendency and its role in the development of rational number knowledge. The results of these studies will support the deeper understanding of the role of SFOR tendency as a contributor within the developmental path from early cognitive and mathematical competences to later rational number knowledge. As well, these investigations will lead to the development of new pedagogical practices and a technological learning environment which enhance SFOR tendency and consequently promote rational number development.
