Project description
The ultimate goal is to find the way to determine the most subtle changes in cells’ or organelles utilizing a new paradigm in modern optics and photonics, known as a twisted light, i.e. the light carrying orbital angular momentum. The alterations of properties of twisted light, serving as the markers of certain diseases, provide a unique opportunity to detect cancer and other tissue malformations with the sensitivity beyond the conventional biopsy modalities. This new ground breaking smart optical biopsy approach, could be so specific that it will revolutionize procedures currently used in histological clinical tests, and will provide an opportunity to detect cancer and other dangerous diseases at the earliest stages totally automatically stand-alone with breakthrough sensitivity to aid clinicians’ in evaluating the patients’ tissues in vivo. The trend towards telemedicine exemplifies the demand for this technology for remote monitoring at home, as well as in personalized medicine.
