Project description
In the emerging Internet-of-Things the interconnected devices and sensors must deal with intermittent, sporadic, and random signal transmissions and receptions and must provide for selective information storage. Furthermore, the limited resources of these devices imply the need for novel methods for signal reconstruction from sparse data and highly selective content caching. In this project we propose to use two new concepts and methodologies to tackle these issues. They are (i) the notion of sparsity and (ii) the notion of information aging (the delayed availability of information updates due to under-sampling and transmission delay). In particular we propose to develop new and effective methods for (1) causal signal reconstruction at sub-Nyquist sampling rates, (2) semi-distributed network control, and (3) adaptive content storage management, all in the context of the emerging new "Fog" wireless architecture.
