Project description
Depression affects globally more than 300 million people of all ages, and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. There are effective treatments for depression, however fewer than half of those affected in the world (in many countries, fewer than 10%) receive treatment. The Depression Grand Challenge (DGC) at UCLA, is dedicated to development of methods for identifying the causes of trajectories of depression. In Europe, the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) aims to improve care and optimise treatment for patients with depressive disorders and to prevent suicidal behaviour. Together with DGC at UCLA, SENSATE’s ambitious goal is to investigate anomalous human behaviour – as in out of the ordinary, exceptional – by means of sensor instrumentation (e.g., smartphone, wearables) and context-awareness for collecting human behavioural and social engagement measurements, trends and relationships as factors for depression.
