Project description
Nanoparticles (NP) can enter the body via different pathways. One of them is a transdermal pathway. Interaction of nanodiamonds (ND) and gold nanostars (AuNS) with murine skin in-vitro was studied. NP penetration and visualization in the skin in dependence on the NP size, shape, surface structure and chemistry as well as magnetic properties (affected by magnetic field) were studied in this project. The methods of optical coherence tomography, confocal fluorescence microscopy and fluorescence lifetime imaging were used in parallel to observe the NP within the skin. It was shown that the studied NPs penetrate into skin and are detected there. The obtained results were discussed in terms of mechanisms of NP interaction with skin, and of ND and AuNS applications as imaging agents and for controlled drug delivery.
