Project description
Nuclear magneto-optic spectroscopy (NMOS), a new family of spectroscopic methods, measure interactions of polarized light with atomic nuclei and the electron cloud of the molecule, and will allow to investigate the structure of matter with a very high resolution. A number of different NMOS methods was proposed by theoretical calculations, but only one was observed so far. Recently, the applicant has finished a unique instrument, which will be further developed in this project and will be used to observe the unexplored NMOS effects and to push the frontiers of NMOS methods. The main goals of the project are to measure the new NMOS effects, significantly boost the NMOS signal and to determine their applicability as methods for structural studies. This project will open a new field of spectroscopy, offering a deeper insight into the properties of matter, ability to study its detailed structure and a very high-resolution imaging method for living samples.
