Project description
The Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning consists of four research groups: Mobile and ubiquitous laser scanning, laser scanning for built environment, laser scanning for precision forestry and pulsed time-of-flight laser radar. 24 new doctor degrees, 25 M.Sc. degrees, 30 new professor degrees (full, associate, assistant, visiting, honorary), more than 400 scientific papers, and 500 months of research mobilities were achieved. The CoE-LaSR also boosted the FGI to first place in the State of scientific research 2018 review, produced by the Academy of Finland, as the public organisation with the highest quality. In their 10 year’s review the Remote Sensing journal assessed the publications from the FGI and the University of Helsinki as having the highest quality (highest number of citations per article). The project’s results have had significant and direct commercial and societal effects: ten spin-off companies were born out of the CoE-LaSR that now employ almost one hundred people.
