Project description
In this project, the formation and advanced control of the polarization and domain structure in ferroelectric perovskite oxides were investigated especially in thin film heterostructures. The research showed that the ferroelectric polar state and structure can be modified and controlled in different materials over long range by mechanical strains and oxygen-related defects as well as on local scale by light. For instance, the polarization direction and structure were significantly modified in barium titanate thin films by controlling the oxygen pressure and related defect formation. Different polar structures had a major impact on materials dielectric and ferroelectric properties. The results of this project create new information on ferroelectric polar structure and its advanced control, and pave way towards higher performance materials with better adaptability to be utilised e.g. in new sensor and energy applications.
