Project description
The global trend of digitalization requires pervasive wireless connectivity. Cisco has forecasted an increase of the global mobile data traffic from the current 4.2 Exabytes per month to 24.3 EB/month by year 2019 mainly due to the internet of everything (IoE). This requires the efficiency of wireless communications and network operation to improve by about an order of magnitude, and has motivated research for realization of the so called fifth generation (5G) cellular or wireless networks. This project aims at enhancing the energy efficiency of wireless connectivity by developing enabling physical and link layer radio resource management (RRM) as well transceiver signal processing algorithms, solutions and technologies. Focus is given on energy efficiency maximization with realistic transceiver models and evolving distributed could RAN (CRAN) type networks for 5G and 6G systems enabling the IoE.
