Project description
The research program has developed remote and fast methods for 3D-modelling of rock surface topography and characterization of mineralogy by combining 3D laser scanning and laser-spectroscopy. An integration of the spectral information and 3D measurements of the rocks and minerals can contribute significantly to the models created by mining and surveying engineers and geologists for the geometallurgical approach. The proposed program brought together the knowledge that has been accumulated in Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Laser Scanning (NLS, and state-of-the-art sensor technology inUniversity of OUlu), and in Aalto Geoengineering and University of Jyväskylä (JYU, Department of Chemistry). Besides producing a significant number of publications and promoting academic careers of the researchers, the project lead to several follow-up projects and further development of the innovations disclosed during the project.
