Project description
Recently human genetics research has made unprecedented discoveries in genetic basis of complex diseases and traits. So far these findings have almost exclusively been done by analysing only one genetic variant and one trait at a time. This project develops practical standards for genetic studies that use multiple traits and multiple variants simultaneously. Emphasis is put on computational efficiency and statistical robustness of the proposed methods so that they become attractive to apply in practice. The topic is timely as hundreds of thousands of samples currently stored in biobanks around the world will soon be genotyped and become target for multivariate genetic analyses. The project analyzes large data sets including, for example, over 20,000 Finnish samples with genetic sequence data and detailed metabolic measurements, as well as 150 Finnish dyslipidemia families that possibly contain high impact genetic mutations for these conditions.
