Project description
Monitoring of adipose tissue conditions is an important problem in designing of optical methods for selective non- or minimally invasive diagnostics and reduction of body fat. One of the most effective fat reduction technologies is a laser-assisted hyperthermia based on laser bulk heating of fat tissue with a proper tissue temperature control. In this project, we performed the following steps: 1) Measured temperature increment of pig fat tissue refractive index (RI) and obtained a phase transition kinetic curves; 2) Studied kinetics of optical coherence tomography images with temperature increase; 3) Studied thermally-induced fat cell membrane porosity using a high resolution light and electron microscopy. The optical clearing of biological tissues was investigated on samples in vitro; 4) Studied secretion of adiposomes by fat cells in normal state and at heating. Our results pave the way for precise control of optically-guided fat reduction surgery in vivo.
