Project description
The objective of this research project is to solve several key questions in ionospheric physics by means of new state-of-art data analysis methods developed in this project: 3D structuring of ionospheric electron densities and their effect on GPS scintillation and ionospheric electrodynamics, the partitioning of energy input between auroral precipitation power and Joule heating, and finally how does the solar wind drive the different ionospheric energy inputs. The main data to be used come from the EISCAT incoherent scatter radar facility, TomoScand Beacon receiver network and the Swarm satellite. The methods developed will be useful also for the future EISCAT_3D incoherent scatter radar.
