Project description
This project (iTask: Linguistic and embodied features of interactional multitasking) takes a new angle on both multitasking and social interaction: it studies interactional multitasking. Interaction is the least studied aspect of multitasking. The project uses video recordings of natural interactions to study interactants’ talk and bodily behaviour when they are multitasking in everyday social situations. The analyses focuses on how social actions, linguistic constructions and the multimodality of interaction are deployed for producing different interactional multitasking practices. The results will be important in that they show how people solve busy and stressful multitasking situations in and through interaction. The project leader is an international expert in the fields of conversation analysis and interaction analysis. The project is international and done in collaboration with renowned international researchers.
