Project description
The aim of the project was to uncover the significance of nature for people and for how they use language, interact with one another and accomplish social actions in this setting. The project set out to examine this at the level of mobile activities in natural environments, how less experienced participants are socialized into doing ‘being in the wild’ and how nature emerges from human activity as a social construct. A close qualitative analysis of the data was used as the method. The project described several new practices of social interaction with which participants organize their activities in nature. Through this, the project made theoretical advances in the analysis of social interaction, towards showing how not only embodiment but also mobility and sensoriality should be included in descriptions of language use and social action. The project also advanced interdisciplinary research on human activities in nature, including methodological and technological development.
