Project description
The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) and the Oulu University (OU) have formed a consortium for a joint research project on orogenic gold and magmatic sulfide mineral systems in Finnish Lapland. The project supports development of knowledge-based, environmentally friendly and cost-effective exploration methods capable of predicting mineral resources under cover. The consortium combines the expertise of leading ore researchers at the GTK and OU, which together with the large datasets and modeling capacity of geophysicists, GIS and mineral potential specialists of the GTK will allow us to conduct a quantitative evaluation of Lapland’s mineral potential, by applying modern concepts of ore formation and cutting-edge analytical methods. The consortium consists of 28 researchers, including partners form the universities of Colorado State (USA), Stockholm, St. Andrews (UK), Cardiff (UK) and Lorraine (France). Two post-doctoral researchers and one PhD student will be hired to the project.
