Project description
Calcific aortic valve disease is a slowly progressive disorder that ranges from mild valve thickening without obstruction of blood flow, termed aortic sclerosis, to severe calcification with impaired leaflet motion, or aortic stenosis. Aortic-valve stenosis is common in elderly persons. In this study, the molecular profile of CAVD was characterized. It helps to understand the molecular changes underlying the disease process. In addition, the effects of anti-inflammatory therapies were studied in experimental models. These results can help to clarify the mechanisms driving CAVD, thus being potential targets for pharmacological therapy.
