Project description
The aim of the research was to develop ultra-fast neuroimaging tools for detecting neuronal avalanches and how hyper-synchronous epileptic activity and narcoleptic theta bursts alter avalanche propagation in brain networks. We succeeded in detecting electrophysiological and neurovascular changes during threapeutic human blood-brain barrier opening with our multimodal probing. Moreover, we developed a new way to image brain pulsations using ultrafast MREG scanning through multi-national science collaboration. Our novel pulsation research enabled us to detect for the first time using fMRI individual brain actvitiy and pulsation alterations in drug resistant epilepsy patients despite absent seizure activity with EEG verification. Our research offers completely new methods to diagnose brain pathology based on the discovery of the glymphatic brain clearance system and it's malfunction by our collaborator Maiken Nedergaard.
