Project description
The CoE asks how scale, borders and territories are accomplished through particular socio-spatial practices in the contemporary world. Through a range of empirical projects (Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia), the CoE aims to develop novel approaches to study contemporary spatial-practices of mobility, bordering, and territorialization through four themes:1) Changing state spaces; 2) Spatial socialization and subjectification; 3) Border crossings and 4) Policing global networks and flows. The CoE will provide academic leadership on issues related to territory/borders, security, and mobility through a host of projects ranging from spatial policy and planning, to the privatization of border enforcement, to the role of development and conflict in constituting transnational migration and security processes. The aims of the CoE are bold: to re-theorize the key categories associated with globalization with implications that will resonate across academic disciplines.
