Project description
Both Finland and Japan face an increasingly aging population due to low birth rates and improved life-expectancy. By 2050 percentage of the population of Finland and Japan over the age of 65 will be 27% and 33% respectively. The project aim is to develop a navigation system based on the current generation of smart phone for demented people so they can walk outdoor independently. Different web based applications will be developed for caregivers which help them to assist the seniors. The main result in the development is to fulfill the physical (monitoring health conditions) and social needs (use mobile technology to interact with others) of the seniors. Research will be supported by Kyoto's knowledge of patient physical condition remote monitoring, NAIST's knowledge on augmented reality and Oulu's knowledge of falling detection, mobile communication. This cooperation will provide resources to develop and validate system with real senior end-users in two different populations.
