Project description
The overall aim of the study was to get new information on risk factors of schizophrenia, other psychoses and psychotic-like symptoms in the Northern Finland Birth Cohort studies born 1966 and 1986. We found that cannabis, tobacco smoking and inhalant use were all associated with psychosis risk in children born 1986. Incidence of schizophrenia remained the same when compared between NFBC 1966 and 1986, but incidence of other psychoses and thereby all psychoses was higher in NFBC 1986. This study showed that many risk factors increased the risk for schizophrenia and other psychosis only among those with parental psychosis and interactions were found.
