Project description
In the project, novel lead-free flexoelectric composites based on different barium strontium titanate (BST) ceramics was developed and their properties was investigated. Flexoelectric behaviour of different BST ceramic compositions with additional small compositional adjustments as a function of strain gradients was investigated in order to maximise electromechanical coefficients. Compositional changes as well as processing parameters of the materials appeared to have significant effect in dielectric properties and therefore flexoelectric properties of the materials. Developed flexoelectric materials with the highest properties were utilised as a energy harvester components obtaining ~5 times higher energy density compared to the state-of-the-art flexoelectric harvester. The results created new information for the field and paves a way for flexoelectric sensor applications while further development is still needed to compete with corresponding piezoelectric energy harvesters.
