Project description
The project addressed the Arctic climate, its change, and the interaction processes involved. One of the processes is the interaction between the stratosphere and troposphere, which is so far unsatisfactorily represented in weather and climate models, but important, among others, for seasonal prediction. Second important interaction is the effects of the Arctic climate change on mid-latitude weather and climate. This is a very actual research topics, as the recent frequent occurrence of extreme weather events in mid-latitudes is probably partly driven by warming of the Arctic. Third, we studied the small-scale interaction of the atmosphere, sea ice and the ocean, seen in the exchange of momentum, heat, and moisture between the media, and strongly affecting sea ice growth and melt.
